At New Boston High School, we are attempting to develop leaders for tomorrow while teaching them to respect the past at the same time. New Boston High School has a proud tradition of success in academic and extracurricular activities. Our students take pride in the accomplishments of former students and many of them are motivated by trying to continue the successes of previous generations. Our school boards and administrators have been progressive over the years and have provided our students with the nicest facilities possible. However, progress sometimes comes at the expense of tradition and history.
When the rock school building that many of us attended was torn down, the decision was made to leave the arch entryway and the steps that lead up to it. For those of you who attended school at New Boston prior to the new buildings, that archway is the only thing left of the school that you knew. At this time, it looks like a building was bombed or burned and that arch was the only thing remaining. We would like to begin a project to revitalize the archway and make it a memorial to the building and all of the students who attended. In this way, we would like the tradition and history of Old Main to continue on.
I have had the opportunity to present this idea to a couple of classes during class reunions this fall, and the response has been tremendous. I am currently working with members of the Class of 1959 on a couple of ideas about what the memorial should look like. These classes, along with the Class of 1979, are both making generous donations toward this project. If you would like to make a donation to this project, it would be greatly appreciated. Please indicate that your donation is for the archway project. It may be sent to:
